Perhaps someone who's never heard of CrossFit but you know they'd love it if they gave it a chance?

Masters Training Day

1E7A7665.jpg

Welcome Masters Athletes! Come enjoy a day or camaraderie and training for athletes 35+ years old. A little more spaced out and fewer high fives, but let’s get back to getting better together.

What: Masters Training Day and Gymnastics Clinic

When: Sunday January 17 starting at 9am until mid-afternoon. Clinic starts at 11am.

Where: CrossFit Central Houston

The Deal: A combination of a full training day with WODs, strength, accessory work AND a world class gymnastics coach doing a 2 hour clinic on intermediate/advanced movements (bar muscle ups, ring muscle ups, etc.)

Gymnastics Clinic led by Shane de Freitas. 1996 Olympic Gymnast, Power Monkey gymnastics coach, and all around solid dude. See more at: bimflipgymnastics.com

The clinic will focus on the higher skilled movements for competitive masters CrossFit athletes. There will be a $25 charge for the clinic. Please send me a direct message or a text (713-557-9278) if you plan on attending so I can get a handle on participation. There may be a cap on the clinic so le me know ASAP.

The rest of the deal....during the day you can come and go as you please. We will have some competitive style WODs programmed and we will probably know some of The Fitttest Games tests by then so maybe we give them a run through. Everything can be scaled or modified to meet you where you are. This group is for 35 year olds and up, but we are yet to check an ID, however, masters aged athletes will have priority on the clinic. Respect thy elders!!!!!

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions. Our facility is big enough to space ourselves out safely, we do require masks when entering, exiting, and moving around in the gym but once you are in your personal workout area with your gear, safely distanced from others, you may decide to WOD with or without facial covering.

January Healthy Habit Challenge

During a time of year when many of us are trying to SUBTRACT things from our diet, let’s try adding something in: vegetables!

During the month of January, our challenge to you is to eat at least one serving of vegetables at each meal. Go RX plus by not including extra starchy veggies like white potatoes and sweet potatoes in this challenge (not that these things are bad, but they’re not quite as nutrient dense as say, a leafy green vegetable). You can scale as well: if your current vegetable intake is very low, start by including a vegetable in one meal, or two meals of your day. Keep an eye on our social media pages and blog for recipe ideas, updates, motivation and even prize winning opportunities related to the challenge!

800g Challenge

  • Google Calendar ICS

The Challenge

Eat 800 grams (g) of fruits and vegetables a day. No foods are off-limits, but you only count your fruits and vegetables towards challenge points. Raw, cooked, canned, frozen; doesn’t matter!  If you can weigh it as a standalone and unprocessed fruit or vegetable, you can count it. What counts and does not count? Click here for the rules.

You can eat the fruits and vegetables you like while adhering to other nutritional targets. Your choices can be higher carb, lower carb, all fruit, perfect Paleo: it’s up to you.

So why 800g? It’s associated with increased health and is a simplified way to hit those recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. Read more here.

Challenge Dates

January 14th - end of day February 8th

Informational Meeting

Thursday, January 10th at 6:30PM. Learn about the challenge. Get your questions answered. It’s not required, but it will be helpful!

  • 1 point is also awarded for working out at CrossFit Central Houston (max 5 points per week). A run on your own or workout in your home gym does not count.

We will award one month of free membership to the person with the highest point total at the end of the 4 weeks. There may also be some surprise challenges and prizes during the 4 weeks!

Run Technique Clinic

Proper run technique can help you  be more not only faster, but more efficient and in less pain! Sam Robles will here on Saturday, 1/10 from 10-11:30AM to each us how to run correctly! Registration opens on 1/4 @ 8PM on Mindbody under the "Seminars" tab, and cost is $10 cash at the door.

Who is Sam?
Sam’s love for running started over 10 years ago. But when he started at Luke’s Locker in 2012, his interest turned from a means of losing weight and keeping cardio up for his sports of boxing and kickboxing into a more competitive nature. While working for Luke’s, Sam had the opportunity to run and train with world class athletes and gain knowledge from extensive training programs. He began coaching all of Luke’s running programs and weekly runs and provided gait analysis to runners of all levels. In 2016, New Balance brought Sam on with their Harriers project, where he represented New Balance for two years in countless local races and podiumed numerous times. He’s also worked with many local CrossFit athletes and gyms in an effort to help them integrate running into their training programs personalized to their specific needs.
