Only 6 Days Until Registration for the CrossFit Open Begins!

"What's the CrossFit Open?" you say. First of all, let me start by saying that ANYONE can participate in the Open. Anyone. You will see 75 year old grandmothers doing it, people who have been CrossFitting for 1 month doing it, and high level athletes doing it - literally all ages, shapes and fitness levels. Ok, keep that in mind when you read the next few sentences. The CrossFit Open is the first qualifying process for the CrossFit Games - like the Olympics of CrossFit (the one on ESPN). The top 45 men and women from each region in the Open (our region includes Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi) qualify to compete at Regionals, where the top 3 go to the Games in California. Stay with me, here!

Last year over 70,000 athletes from all over the world entered the Open - and I guarantee you most of them went in with no intention of heading to the CrossFit Games. It's not just about winning. Beginning March 6, the powers that be at CrossFit, Inc. will release a workout that you can do ANYWHERE - including your own CrossFit gym. So, it's just like a regular CrossFit WOD, except that instead of just writing your score on the whiteboard, we enter it into a database where you can see how you stack up against other people of your same gender and in your age group, all over the WORLD. You don't have to go anywhere special, you don't have to do anything different than what you're already doing, except enter your score online. The amazing thing about the Open is that it's a chance to experience that extra motivation that comes from a competitive situation right in your own gym, and for the CrossFit community to all take part in something together. Check out the CrossFit Games website for more details and for stories of people who are/have competed: games.crossfit.com
