How to Prep for a Burpee
Last year, the first WOD of the CrossFit Open was max burpees in 7 minutes. It was perfect because everyone can do a burpee, it's just a matter of how hard you can push yourself to keep moving. The top male and female scores in the world were 161 and 143 respectively. Yikes. P.S. 61 year old Marlene Garceau did 93 burpees in 7 minutes. Just to give you an idea in case you've never done burpees for 7 minutes straight - I redid this workout a few months ago and hit 101. She's 61, people. 93 burpees. Just remember that the next time you consider uttering the words, "I'm too old for this...."
Anyway, Kelly Starrett and Carl Paoli of San Fransisco CrossFit, mobilitywod.com and gymnasticswod.com discuss burpee technique and how to get ready to do a lot of them. Don't worry, this isn't foreshadowing some sort of burpee-a-thon tomorrow. Then again, I'd say that either way.... :)
