Are you dehydrated?

Quite simply, dehydration occurs when your body, which is made of 75% water, is losing more water than it's taking in. Your body loses water on a daily basis through urine, water vapor that you breath out with each breath, and through sweat. You don't have to exercise in order to sweat, either - some of us sweat while sleeping!

So how do you know if you're becoming dehydrated? Here's a few signs:
- Dry mouth. Here's the deal: if you every feel thirsty, then you're body is telling you that it doesn't have enough water
- Dark colored urine. If you are adequately hydrated, your urine should be virtually clear.
- fever
- headaches
- inability to sweat
- decreased urine output
- muscle cramps
- weakness

So what do you do if you're dehydrated? DUN DUN DUN! Drink more fluids! (Beer doesn't count, you guys) Grab your gallon of water, and get on this months Gallon a Day water challenge. Especially considering our workout environment and amount of sweat we lose during a regular CrossFit WOD, you should also be adding electrolytes into your water on a regular basis. Nuun tablets are a great source with a pretty low ingredient list and can be found at Whole Foods right down the street from the box. Even Emergen-C has electrolytes. One to two tablets/packets each day will help replace the salts lost through sweat.
